The Developmental Enhancement Life and Training Alliance Incorporated (DELTA Inc.) of Birmingham, Alabama is the 2019 recipient of a $10,000 grant from Alabama State Senator Rodger Smitherman through the Jefferson County Community Service Fund Committee. DELTA Inc. is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization serving Birmingham and surrounding communities for the past 26 years. This sizable grant will help support the organization’s mission: (1) to provide opportunities for young people to improve the quality of their lives through counseling, tutorial and support programs that develop a desire for a lifelong pursuit of worthy goals and (2) to develop outreach programming to enrich the lives of senior citizens by providing diversified activities and information pertinent to their well-being and to endeavor to utilize the skills of the senior citizens to enhance the lives of others.
DELTA Incorporated achieves its mission by annually providing approximately $30,000 in scholarships and book stipends to the community’s youth and college students. In addition, DELTA Incorporated provides financial assistance to two (2) adopt-a-schools: Charles A. Brown and Green Acres Elementary Schools. To further its appreciation to the community, DELTA Incorporated opens its doors at 1217 Meadow Lane, Birmingham, Alabama during “Christmas on Meadow Lane”. This public event showcases community talent and gives free books to students K-12 as part of the Literacy program. Each biennium, DELTA Incorporated holds its signature fundraising event, “Red Carpet Gala”, and awards monetary contributions to other organizations who share similar goals. In June 2019, during the The Red Carpet Gala “Glitz & Glamour” event, DELTA Incorporated awarded scholarships to Children’s Village, Gateway Residential Program, Meals on Wheels, and Birmingham Alumnae Chapter Youth Initiatives – Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
