Positive Maturity, established in 1970, was created to assess and meet the needs of the aging population. Enhancing the lives of older adults through social services and civic engagement. Since 1972 Positive Maturity, Inc. in Birmingham Alabama has been a proud partner of United Way of Central Alabama and sponsor for the Corporation for National and Community Service serving adults 50 and older in the Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker County areas.
Positive Maturity, Inc. offers three volunteer placement programs that each serve adults 55 and older; the RSVP Program, Senior Companion Program, and the Foster Grandparent Program. In addition, Positive Maturity has three other programs that supports the aging community and their families. AWARE, an employment program, that assists adults 50 and older who are unemployed or underemployed with one on one job counseling and job skills assessment. Shepherd Center East, a senior center in the Eastlake Community, that provides numerous activities and educational opportunities for adults 50 and older and serves as a nutrition site for adults 60 and older Monday-Friday. Finally, all program participants and their families are offered case management services through Positive Maturity’s Geriatric Social Service Department.
